Therapeutic Qualities of Color

Over the years, color has played a significant role in helping people fight their ailments. There have been lots of healing methods derived. From gemstones to colored foods, drinking colored water, and even shining specific colored lights on the skin, there are lots of color treatments that have been used effectively over the years. There are stories of famous psychic Edgar Cayce using color treatments for his patients. The treatments revolved around a person's aura and emotional imbalance. He will then prescribe a colored cloth on the affected area of the body to treat the problem.



Modern use of color

Color is used in a variety of mediums and different purposes in the world today. From decorative purposes to aesthetics, and even advertisement, there are lots of ways colors influence our everyday lives. Subconsciously, colors influence our decision to purchase furniture or to like someone. The role of color is so essential in our lives that we have to pay attention to it when deciding what our furniture should look like.

There are countless examples of how colors have influenced people over the years, and they are;

  • A couple of years back, a London company once painted their machinery light orange. This single act improved the employee's performance and morale, and a once disgruntled working place became a happy spot.

  • Employees of a company once complained that a set of black metal boxes were too heavy to lift. So, management decided to paint it green unbeknownst to the employees. The same boxes that were deemed heavy became lightweight and easy to carry.

  • Operating rooms paint their sheets, and gowns pale blue to exude calmness. Rehabilitation centers and hospitals use a different combination of orange, yellow, and red to energized depressed patients. Hospitals usually have their walls painted with colors that exude calmness, and also possess therapeutic properties.

  • A sales meeting was organized for a group of salesmen in a red and green meeting room without any perception of time. The salesmen in the red room felt the meeting was longer while those in the green room felt it was shorter.

  • The Black friars Bridge in England was famous for its high suicide rate. The black color of the bridge was repainted green, and the suicide rate declined.

  • The coach of a sports team painted his team's locker bright red to facilitate aggressiveness. For the opponent's locker, he painted it pale blue to evoke passive behavior.
